Change to NC Series Schedule

Due to an unavoidable scheduling conflict, there has been a small change to the NC Series schedule.

The OHO Crosstown event, scheduled for May 2 - 3, has been amended to a one day event, just May 3.

Due to this, the fall event that will take place at the same course (Patriots - a new course in central NC) October 17-18 will replace this event.

On behalf of tournament director for both events Phil Lawerence and myself (Robert Leonard), we apologize for any scheduling conflicts this has caused for those competing on the series. This truly was unavoidable.

Thanks!

2017 North Carolina Series Information

The 2017 North Carolina Series has been set. Here are the things you will need to know.

- A winner will be crowned in Open, Pro Masters, Advanced Men and Intermediate.

- Each event on the series will have $1 of their entry deducted from these divisions. Other divisions in North Carolina Series' events will not have this deduction. All funds are collected throughout the year and paid out at the end. The amount paid is TBD as it is based on the amount of funds collected.

- The top three qualifying finishers in each division will receive a payout.

- To qualify for payout, you must compete in and finish at least one event in 3 of the 4 regoins. The divisions are geographically based (East, Triangle, Central, West). Each region has 5 events.

- Points are awarded based on your finish within the event. The points system is as follows:
1st - 50 points
2nd - 47
3rd - 45
4th - 43
5th - 40
6th - 37
7th - 35
8th - 33
9th - 30
10th - 27
11th - 25
12th - 23
13th - 20
14th - 17
15th - 15
16th - 13
17th - 10
18th - 8
19th - 7
20th - 5
21st or worse - 3

If two players tie, they both receive the same amount of points as their place. For example, Tom and Jon finish tied for 5th. Sam finishes alone in 7th. Tom and Jon receive 40, Sam receivs 35. No player in the divisions would receive 37.

A player's best 13 events count for the end of the year totals. If a player has more than 13 events, his top 13 events will count. If a player has 13 events, all events will count. If a player has less than 13 events, he will receive the appropriate number of zero's to calculate a 13 event total.

If two players tie at the end of the year, tie breaker proceedures are as follows (note, tie breakers will only determine a winner, and subsequent ties will split winnings).
- Wins on the series
- Most top 3 finishes
- Most top 10 finishes
- Events played
- PDGA Rating
- PDGA Number

- Each region will have a major event. Points are doubled for these events. The majors for 2016 are as follows:
- East - The Azalea Tournament

Winners In Durham Crowned

A cold weekend was warmed up by the excitement of a great venus, great course and the one day a year all three NC trophies are in the same place.

In Open, Terry Gallops was able to finish 4th to win his 4th NC Series. Gallops is now tied with Carlton Howard for second on the all time title list. They both trail Larry Leonard who has six. Brian Schweberger couldn't quite catch Gallops and finished 2nd. Nate Sexton won the last two events of the year to take third and overtook Michael Johansen by a single point.

Dave George won his first title in Masters. Coming in second was Eric Vandenberg and Brian McRee, both tying.

The Advanced division featured some verves as a charging Mitch Dickens almost snagged the title from Ross Trevor. Trevor's 15th place finish was good enough to win the series by 17 points over Dickens. 2013 champion Todd Gingerich won the event and was able to finish third.

The closest battle of the year was between Matt McKone and Jason Hennard. Just 9 points apart heading to Durham, it came down to a single event. McKone struggled in round 1 and couldn't catch Hennard who clinched the title. Reid Stansel snuck into third.

As we close out the 2014 year and award the trophies for the 37th time, it's important that I thank everyone who helped me this year. First off, I thank all the TD's who ran events on the NC Series. They do not have to be involved and it certainly adds a bit of work to an already thankless job. I also have to thank tour Sponsor Spike Hyzer. Spike Hyzer was able to add cash into the payout. And finally, I have to thank Bobby Henn. Bobby did all the points for the series this year.

I have also updated the historical list of winners. This is available on the right. This is our state's history and is amazing to think about this all!

As always, it's important to showcase the payout so players can see how the money is collected. Here is that information.

Open:
1. Terry Gallops - $300
2. Brian Schweberger - $180
3. Nate Sexton - $100

Masters:
1. Dave George - $200
T2. Eric Vandenberg - $112
T2. Brian McRee - $112

Advanced:
1. Ross Trevor: $175
2. Mitch Dickens: $100
3. Todd Gingerich: $60

Intermediate:
1. Jason Hennard: $175
2. Matt McKone: $80
3. Reid Stansell: $40

Total Collected $1,512
Total Paid out: $1,649

Can't wait for 2015!
