Another Champion Crowned After DEP Cup

The Down East Players Cup occurred this weekend and as always, Max Crotts and the Greenville Disc Golf Club put on an awesome event that included free breakfast and lunch for all players in attendance. A Full field of 80 players battled the 20 hole layout, which changes each round, at West Meadowbrook Park. The Open division was won by Brian Schweberger. Schwebby doesn’t compete very often in Open in the North Carolina series but as if anyone doubted it, he can still hang with the young boys. As noted last week, Barry Schultz locked up the victory on the series. However, Terry Gallops has now clinched second place. Eight players have a chance to finish in the third payout spot with two events left. The masters division was won by Eric Vandenberg. The big news, series wise, is that Brian Schweberger officially clinched the North Carolina Masters Series this weekend. The race now is for second between Dave George, runner up in Greenville, and Chris Lee. But many people are still in striking distance. The advanced division is as close as it gets with Todd Gingerich holding a slim 17 point lead over Jared Askew. The intermediate division is now officially a two horse race as Josh Rock and Michael Spivey have clinched first and second place, however either one could win the series. The next to last stop on the series is the first weekend in November at the Lake Reidsville Open. The series concludes at the Forest Hills Open in Durham two weeks later.

A champion crowned at Sneeky Pete

With three events left, Barry Schultz has clinched the North Carolina points series. Schultz has been dominate this year and he finishes a year that included introduction into the Hall of Fame and a Masters World Title with the title of North Carolina Series Champion. In Masters, Brian McRee's win put him in a large conversation for who gets third place as 5 people are with 19 points of each other. While it's not clinched, Brian Schweberger has a firm lead on Chris Lee. The advanced division is lead by Todd Gingerich still, but Jared Askew and Sneeky Pete's winner Brian Adams are all on his heels. The intermediate division has turned into a two horse race between Josh Rock and Michael Spivey, separated by just 31 points. The next event is this weekend in Greenville.

Update after Midtown

The Midtown Chiropractic Raleigh Disc Golf Championship is in the books and we have some shifts after the event!

Barry Schultz got his 5th Open win on the series this year winning in dominating fashion to earn the 50 points. Barry now has a comanding lead over Terry Gallops and the two time world champion and three time USDGC champ might have another title to add his hall of fame career very soon.

In Masters, Brian Schweberger continued his winning streak in NC Series Masters events. The US Master champion has now won the last 5 events on the series he has played. His lead is very big over Scott Crouch, whose solid play in Raleigh jumped him into second place on the series.

Not much shifting in advanced as the leaders all were not in action. Jared Askew still leads by a slim margin over Brian Adams. The advanced race is going to be very tight.

A new leader emerged in Interediate. Josh Rock, thanks in part to a 995 rated final round, finished second and jumped Michael Spivey for the lead. It's going to be a very tight race between these two!

The next event is this weekend in the Central Conference as the series heads to Pinehurst for the Ponderosa Throwdown.

Points Updated!

Sorry for the delays - it has been a very crazy time!

Points are now updated and current.

In Open, Barry Schultz has a commanding lead. Terry Gallops is in second and Cam Todd is in the third. The race might be for 2nd, but 8 people are within 102 of Terry which is only three events!!

Masters has been dominated by Brian Schweberger. Chris Lee has a solid hold on 2nd while the race for third is between three Wilmington guys - Steve Narehood, Dave George and Scott Crouch. And look at Barry Schultz sitting in 6th. No one has ever cashed in two divisions - that would be an amazing accomplishment.

Jared Askew continues to lead advanced and Brian Adams isn't far behind. This race is truly anyone's race.

The closest battle is in the Intermediate field between Michael Spivey and Josh Rock. Spivey is just 14 points up.

The next events are in Charlotte (21 Hole Salute) and Raleigh (Midtown) in back to back weeks!

New leaders after Moncure

The story of the Swingin DB’s Chain Banger Bash III was clearly the weather. Rain changing over to snow and ice on Saturday led to the cancelation of the second round on Saturday and a late start on Sunday. Despite that, 85 people made their way to Moncure to fight the conditions and a very challenging 21 hole layout.

In the Open Division, David Wiggins Jr. cruised to an 8 throw win over Cam Todd. With the win, Wiggins, Jr. took the lead in the NC Series by 47 points over the  2012 champion Terry Gallops.

In Masters, Brian Schweberger battled two time world champion and 3 time US Masters Champion Barry Schultz and bested him by 4 shots. Schweberger and Schultz are now tied both finishing 2nd to each other one time thus far.

The advanced division had a change in leaders as Jared Askew took over after another great showing in Moncure. Along with Ross Trevor, now in second, Askew played both events and took over the series lead. Todd Gingerich’s win put him in a tie for third place.

Intermediate looks as competitive as ever as multiple people played both events, but it was Derek Greene’s consistent play that puts him in the lead. After a strong 2nd place finish, Josh Rock moved up into second place as well.

The series takes a month off before event three, Tar Heel Tournament, which takes place in the Triangle division in Chapel Hill on March 16-17.
